“ALGERIA(S)” tells the story of an ongoing « civil war » which has killed between 150,000 and 200,000 people in the last decade. It reveals the strange relationship which has prevailed between the regime and the Islamist forces in a country which gained its independence from France in 1962 after 8 years of war.

- Part 1: A People without a Voice
The first part focuses on the rise of Islamic fundamentalism through legitimate means - with initial encouragement from some foreign governments (US, France, etc.). It looks at the post-colonial, social and economic roots of a situation which led to the riots of October 1988 when 500 people were killed by the army. And it ends with the assassination in June 1992 of President Mohamed Boudiaf who had been appointed after the cancellation of the December 1991 elections.

- Part 2: A Land of Mourning
The second part covers what's been called the "Bloody Decade". With three main phases in the violence: targeted terrorism (on intellectuals, journalists, policemen from 1992 to 1994), the export of terrorism to Europe (1995) and massive terrorism on villages (1995 until now). We investigate the responsibilities of the army and secret services in certain manipulations and in the disappearance of over 20,000 missing people. And we reveal the sometimes secret talks between those in power and the Islamist movement and the Islamic armed groups.
