ALGERIA'S BLOODY YEARS
tuesday, 7 September

In the past twelve years, over 150,000 people have died in Algeria - the result of a bloody war between armed islamic fundamentalist groups and the Army. Since 9/11, some of the groups have been linked with Al Qaeda.
This film documents those years - with testimony from the main players on both sides of the conflict. Tracing the rise of fundamentalism in the 80’s and 90’s, it reveals how the real power of Algeria was never the official governement - but the shadowy High Command of the Army. And it tracks the descent of the society into assassinations and massacres - with key figures in the terrorist groups giving their account.
