Salvador Dali was a celebrated surrealist painter with exceptional creative ambition, challenging concepts of what constituted the usual in the mid-20th Century. Participating in many other artistic disciplines, Dali also made various reknowned contributions to the film industry. In discovering that he could show himself in front of the camera, Dali invented a new form of cinema, breaking with long-held notions of representation. In this surrealist cinematography, its numerous short scenes, the sole actor and director is no less than the famous Salvador Dali acting out all sorts of eccentric roles.
CINEMA DALI brings out an entirely new perspective on Salvador Dali. Its investigative work brings back into light and re-organizes over forty hours of archive images from around the world. With the discovery of images previously unavailable to the greater public, the team found links between them, throwing a new light on Dali's cinematographic ideas. Approved by the Gala and Salvador Dali Foundation, heir of the painter, the film has already known important recognition. Until now we only knew about Dali's work through the work of great directors such as Buñuel, Disney or Hitchcock. Researchers will now be able to refer to a new chapter and genre dedicated to the cinema of Dali.
